The Devil Mountain Run Goes Virtual

Proceeds from registration go to Discovery Counseling Center of the San Ramon Valley

For 42 years, Devil Mountain Run has been a beloved tradition attracting runners from all over the Bay Area to join local families and community members. Each year more than 1,500 participants would lace up their running shoes and take to the streets of Danville to compete in a 5K, 10K, Mile of Truth, the Buddi Love Dog Mile or the Kids’ Fun Run. This Sunday, rather than coming downtown, Race Director Chris McCrary is asking people to run from home while maintaining social distance protocols to keep donations flowing to Devil Mountain beneficiary Discovery Counseling Center of the San Ramon Valley.

“May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we want to do everything we can to support our beneficiary, Discovery Counseling Center of the San Ramon Valley to help them help the community navigate these difficult times,” McCrary says. “That’s why $12 of your $15 fee will go to Discovery.”

While Discovery’s offices are closed, they continue to provide critical mental health wellness visits to the community via telephone or video. Besides their ongoing services, they are helping those facing challenges with anxiety, fear, job loss and more due to the extraordinary circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic. As always, Discovery offers their services on a sliding scale based on family income. To continue to do so, they rely on donation dollars from events such as Devil Mountain Run, which has donated nearly $50,000 since Katalyst Events, LLC brought the race back in 2013.
