Donate Blood In Contra Costa County, Win A Super Bowl Trip?

EAST BAY, CA — With holiday travel at a record-high, blood supplies are dwindling. All blood types are needed, but the American Red Cross said Monday that its Type O stores can only last three days. On the weeks of Christmas and the New Year, an estimated 500 additional blood drives would have been needed to meet patient demand, but travel plans can get in the way, the Red Cross said.

One donor who pitches in to help bolster the post-holiday season blood supply from Jan. 1 to Jan. 19 will be sent to Super Bowl LIV in Miami, thanks to a partnership between NFL and the Red Cross, the organization announced in a press release. The winner will receive two Super Bowl tickets, two round-trip plane tickets, a three-night beachfront hotel stay and entry to the NFL tailgate and a $500 gift card.

“Lifesaving medical treatments and emergencies never take a holiday,” said Paul Sullivan, senior vice president of Red Cross Biomedical Services in a press release. “Declines in donations can affect patient care."
