Donate Tents, Sleeping Bags, Canned Goods For East Bay Homeless

Community Presbyterian Church in Danville will collect the items on behalf of area charities.

DANVILLE, CA — Community Presbyterian Church plans to collect food, tents and sleeping bags during a donation drive from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at its 222 W. El Pintado Rd. campus.

Donations will be given to local charities including Shepherd's Gate, which has a Livermore office, and Concord-based Monument Crisis Center, the church said.

CPC said it collected 500 cans of food, 120 pounds of dried food and two dozen sleeping bags at a similar drive held last Friday.

The church is also offering curbside pick-up for people wishing to donate items. So far CPC has conducted 300 pick-ups with more than 1,000 bags and boxes of items such as clothing and books, the church said.

"We started curbside pick-ups at people's homes one week into sheltering in place and the response has been overwhelming," said Deana Dickerson, CPC director of serve, in an email. "We are blown away by the generosity across the San Ramon Valley."
