Essay Contest

Are you in 5th through 8th grade? You're invited to participate in the Daughters of the American Revolution American History Contest

San Ramon, Danville, Alamo or Walnut Creek residents! If you are or have a student in the 5th, through 8th grade, you are invited to participate in the DAR American History Essay Contest. Last year a local student wrote the winning 6th Grade California State DAR essay.

This year's topic: 2020 marks the 400th Anniversary of the voyage of the Mayflower and the founding of the Plymouth Colony. Imagine you are one of the passengers on the Mayflower. Knowing what materials were available in 1620, what would you have packed to prepare for the trip and starting a new life in the wilderness? After experiencing more than two months at sea then finally landing at Plymouth Colony on November 9, 1620, do you think you would have made different choices about what you packed and why?

Deadline for submission is October 31, 2019.
