Montague 'Leech and Carlota Castanet make a tidy profit shanghaiing lads from a disreputable Monterey tavern. The owner expires leaving the tavern to his only heir, Bertha Birtbright.
Montague must get rid of the damsel somehow! Enter Jack Swan, English sailor with a love for theater. He offers Bertha protection and the hilarity mounts, especially after gold was discovered. Classic Olio songs, and dances between scenes help to complete the entire melodrama experience!
