Fed Shutdown Closes Eugene O’Neill Historic Site In Danville
America's only Nobel Prize-winning playwright lived in Northern California, but don't attempt to visit landmark during government closure.

DANVILLE, CA – The Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site in Danville is shuttered during the federal government's partial shutdown that began in December as lawmakers failed to reach a deal on border security.
"During the federal government shutdown, we will not monitor or update social media, the park site said on its Facebook page. "Some Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site areas are accessible; however access may change without notice, and there are no National Park Service-provided services."
Under normal operating hours, the playwright's former home in Danville is open Wednesdays through Sundays and is the inspiration for the annual Eugene O'Neill Festival held each year in the fall.

“The National Park Service rangers are wonderful colleagues, and our hearts go out to them during this difficult period," Dan McGovern, president of the Eugene O'Neill Foundation, said on Friday to DanvilleSanRamon.com. "We hope that the shutdown ends soon, so that visitors can return to this historic site, the home of America's only playwright to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.”
During the federal government shutdown, many national parks are inaccessible to visitors. For most parks, there will be no National Park Service-provided visitor services, such as restrooms, trash collection, facilities, or road maintenance.
