Girls Basketball: Carondelet Fades in NCS Title Game Against Berkeley

The Cougars didn't hit a shot from the field in the final seven minutes of Friday's 55-53 loss to Berkeley in the NCS title game.

No. 1 Berkeley 55, No. 2 Carondelet 53

The Star: Carondelet's Erica Payne led the Cougars with 13 points.

The Turning Point: After a layup from Portia Velasco put the Cougars up 52-43 with 6:59 left in the game, the Cougars went cold. A trio of 3-pointers by Berkeley over the next three minutes tied the game at 52, then, with the game tied at 53, Khristina Hunter scored with 24 seconds left to put Berkeley up.

Who's Next? Both teams will advance to the NorCal playoffs. They will find out who they play on Sunday.

The Bottom Line: Carondelet looked like it was well on its way the the North Coast Section Division I title, but the Cougars simply went cold from the field down the stretch. The teams will be expected to meet again in the NorCal championship game.
