Little League Intermediate World Series Championship Game Today in Livermore

As the second Little League Intermediate World Series comes to a close, it is now known how the final celebration will begin.

On Monday, August 4th, at Max Baer Park in Livermore, the International Champion, Samaritana Little League from San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico will take on the United States Champion, Nogales National Little League from Nogales, Arizona in the Championship Game at 4 p.m. PST.

“This year’s Little League Intermediate Baseball World Series is really the exclamation point on the end of a year of celebrations for the Intermediate Division” said Dave Wetmore, Tournament Director. “We are looking forward to a great

World Series game here at Max Baer Park.”

The team from Puerto Rico earned a birth in the World Series behind Leonardo Lizardi, who went 2-3 and hit a home run, leading Puerto Rico to a 3-2 victory in seven innings over Latin America on Sunday at Max Baer Field. He singled in the fourth inning and homered in the sixth inning. Jan Osorio pitched a complete game, racking up 10 strikeouts while only yielding two earned runs on five hits over seven innings.

The West managed to pull out a 6-5 victory over East in seven innings at Max Baer Field. Jorge Bojorquez started for Nogales Little League, and pitched 4 1/3 gritty innings yielding nine hits and three earned runs, but Dustin Bermudez came in and closed out the game, pitching 2 2/3 perfect innings, with no hits allowed and seven
strikeouts.

ESPN2 will televise the Little League Intermediate World Series Championship at 4 p.m. on Monday, August 4.

“This tournament is a wonderful example of the sportsmanship and competition that happens in Little League around the world,” said Mr. Wetmore. “We are excited that our fans from will be able to see this exciting Intermediate baseball game.”

The Intermediate Division began as a two-year pilot program, before becoming an official division in 2012. Players ages 11-13 are eligible to play in this Intermediate baseball league, which features a 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot bases, also
known as “50/70”.
