Free Catalytic Converter Etching Event Coming To Livermore

LIVERMORE, CA — The Livermore Police Department is teaming up with Las Positas College to host a free catalytic converter etching event. Theft of valuable catalytic converters is a common problem throughout California, and inscribing them with license plate numbers and a Livermore Police Department identifier is meant to deter theft and make them easier to track down if they’re stolen. Replacing a stolen converter may cost up to $2500, according to Farmers Insurance.

The event will take place Thursday, March 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Las Positas College Campus’s Automotive Department on Loop Road, behind Building 900. The free event is first come, first served.

This is the first such collaboration. Attendants are advised that there may be waits of up to an hour.
