Lucky Supermarkets Danville Location Closing
The Sycamore Square grocery store is the second Lucky location to close in the Tri-Valley in less than three years.

DANVILLE, CA — The Lucky California supermarket on 660 San Ramon Valley Boulevard will close July 17 due to underperformance, a store employee and owner Save Mart Companies confirmed to Patch.
"We routinely assess the performance of all of our stores to ensure they meet business standards. Through the normal course of business, we sometimes have to make the tough decision to close an underperforming location. Based on economic factors, we will be closing our Lucky store #708 at 660 San Ramon Valley Blvd. in Danville, CA. The store will close to the public on Friday, July 17 at 5:00 p.m.," Save Mart spokesperson Phil Keene told Patch in an email.
Keene said that Save Mart will work to transfer employees to nearby locations.

Employees are currently in the process of clearing out the store, and Danville-San Ramon reported that many shelves, refrigerator, and pantry cases were only partially stocked as of Monday afternoon. The paper also reported that signs informing shoppers of the closure were affixed to the front doors and check-out counters.
This announcement marks the Tri-Valley’s second Lucky closure in less than three years. A location in the Fallon Gateway shopping center in Dublin closed in November 2023 due to what company officials deemed “underperformance.” Locations in Fremont and Millbrae closed the same day. In 2024, Korean supermarket Mega Mart announced plans to open a location in that space, though the opening timeline remains unclear.

Lucky California still maintains locations in San Ramon, Pleasanton, and Livermore.
In February 2026, Draeger’s in Blackhawk Plaza closed after nearly 20 years of operation. "The retail industry has faced many challenges over the past few years, and our business must respond to economic factors accordingly," the owners wrote in a letter to customers.
Remaining supermarkets in Danville include Trader Joe’s, Smart & Final Extra, Lunardi’s Markets, and Safeway, as well as Whole Foods and Sprouts nearby in San Ramon.
