Blackhawk Plaza Confrontation Ends In Man's Arrest

He reportedly tried to steal and bit someone trying to restrain him while waiting for law enforcement, the sheriff's office said.

BLACKHAWK, CA — A theft from a Blackhawk Plaza store ended with a confrontation that led to bystanders restraining a man, the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office said.

Blackhawk Police, a branch of the sheriff's office, responded to the plaza around 4:40 p.m. Sunday. A deputy saw Trung Ly, 25, of San Jose being held down on the ground by two other people, including a store employee, said sheriff's office spokesperson Jimmy Lee.

Ly bit the employee, who was treated at the scene for their injury, Lee said. Ly was arrested and booked on suspicion of charges related to assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft and burglary.

He remains in jail, in lieu of $30,000 bail.
