Man Caught On Camera Rummaging Closet During Danville Open House

Police said a home security camera captured video of the suspect while he was in the seller's closet area.

DANVILLE, CA — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man suspected of rummaging through a closet during an open house in Danville last weekend. Police said the man visited an open house on March 10 between 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Witnesses said the man appeared to be looking for valuables.

"The person appeared to linger about the open house without purpose, while apparently viewing areas that a reasonable person would deem to be private, even during the showing of an open house for sale," Danville Police Chief Allan Shields told Patch.

A home security camera captured video of the suspect while he was in the closet area.

"Danville Police would also like to remind potential sellers to secure personal belongings within their home and ensure there is adequate staff and/or surveillance cameras set up in the home during an open house to deter would be thieves from using the showing of their homes to steal their property," Shields said.

Anyone with information is asked to call or email Sergeant Ron Hoekwater at 925-314-3703 or at rhoekwater@danville.ca.gov.
