May 12 is ME Awareness Day
M.E., Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/CFS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is making 2 million ill in US
The Trivalley area has thousands that are ill with ME/CFS, a nasty acquired neurological disease that is more common than AIDS, worse than AIDS and has no good diagnostics or Cures, due to 3 decades of neglect by Conress, President, HHS, NIH, CDC. Approx 85% are not diagnosed, and most will never recover. We know people in Danville, San Ramon, Dublin with this disease that can take away your ability to function, lead to "brain fog", difficulty thinking, staying awake, sleeping, can have pain, many other metabolic issues. This medical, physiological disease needs $250M/yr NIH funding to understand biochemistry, develop biomarkers, treatments and cures. This can happen to you, since you are not born with this, and no good predictors or who will get this disease or at what age. It is often triggered by a viral illness, but instead of getting well, the body may begin attacking itself, so has no cure. This is perhaps most common chronic disease to lead to dropping out of high school or college, often never to return since most never recover. If you know anyone with this disease, or if you know someone who was productive, got ill, then could never get well again, then you should see a very rare doctor who treats this, since many MD's have almost no clue about M.E. See www.End-MECFS.org to see the top R&D in the world that is happening this year in Bay Area to find diagnostics for Severe ME, and later treatments or cures. More people die with this disease than from auto wrecks, yet you almost never hear about M.E., since many are too ill to lobby or even see a doctor. Today is ME awareness day and city halls around the world are lit up Blue for M.E., including Houston, London etc. Hope you show your support each May with Blue lights outside, blue ribbons May 12th and onward. Similarly, people know pink ribbons represent breast cancer awareness and now Blue ribbons represent The need to Cure M.E. Did you see any blue ribbons today? Can you say Myalgic Encephalomyelitis five time? If so, you are hereby disignated an advocate to Cure M.E.! Thanks for listening - hope you can help.
