New E-Bike Speed Limit, Trail Restrictions Proposed In Danville Parks
Officials say the changes are aimed at improving safety and preventing damage to park facilities.
DANVILLE, CA — The Danville Town Council will consider a proposed ordinance that would impose new restrictions on bicycles, e-bikes, and motorized scooters in town parks.
Under the proposal, e-bikes and motorized scooters would be restricted to paved trails within parks. The ordinance would also establish a 15-mile-per-hour speed limit for bicycles, e-bikes, and motorized scooters in all town parks and trails. It would retain existing provisions that prohibit riding in an unsafe manner, and ban bicycles, e-bikes and scooters from playground areas of town parks, and on sidewalks in business districts.
The ordinance comes after nearly two years of discussion about the growing use of e-bikes and motorized scooters in public spaces in Danville. Last year, the council asked the Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission and the Bicycle Advisory Commission to study whether additional regulations were needed. The Parks Commission recommended two new rules that form the basis of the new ordinance.
