Police Department Evacuated After Failing HVAC Unit Started Smoking

Crews were working on repairing the unit, fire officials said.

The Danville Police Department was evacuated Wednesday due to smoke emanating from a failing heating and air conditioning unit, according to the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District.

The unit started malfunctioning and caused the police building at 510 La Gonda Way to fill up with smoke, prompting an evacuation at 3:35 p.m., fire officials said. Fire officials said there was no threat of injury or damage to the building. The evacuation was called off within roughly 30 minutes.

Crews were working on repairing the unit, fire officials said.
