Prescription Drug Take Back Day: Collection Site In Danville
The event gives people the chance to dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs — anonymously and for free.
DANVILLE, CA — Law enforcement agencies across the country are participating in “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day” on Saturday, Oct. 26, offering to collect anyone’s expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs — anonymously and for free.
The Danville Police Department is participating in the event, sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration, which aims to prevent prescription drug abuse by giving people a chance to dispose of potentially dangerous drugs with no questions asked.
The police department will be hosting a drop-off site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Danville Town Offices, 510 La Gonda Way. In addition to medications, the department is also taking e-cigarette and vaping devices to help combat the nationwide vaping health crisis. Other participating drop-off sites can be found by searching here.

Individuals who cannot attend the Drug Take Back Day can still drop off pharmaceuticals, including sharps, in bins at the front desk of the Danville Police Department during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are increasing, according to the DEA, and studies show that most abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends. Many people don't know how to properly dispose of their unused medications, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away — both of which present safety hazards.
