Residents' Call to Cops Leads to Arrest of Alamo Man, Suspected of Swiping Copper Wire from School

Police say residents reported hearing voices and noise coming from the bleacher area at San Ramon Valley High School early this morning.

A 41-year-old Alamo man is in police custody this morning, after he was discovered stealing copper wire at San Ramon Valley High School.

Police Chief Steve Simpkins says officers were called to the football field at the high school at about at 3:53 a.m on Tuesday, after nearby residents reported hearing voices and noise coming from the bleacher area. An officer found Damon Carthen, 41, of Alamo, who was in possession of a quantity of copper wire. Officers determined the wire was from one of the light standards near the visitor bleachers.

Carthen was arrested on suspicion of grand theft, in addition to a probation violation and booked at the Martinez Detention Facility, where he is being held without bond.
