San Ramon Girl Announced as a National Finalist for Scotts Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit, and Run Program

Local girl wins Giants Team Championship and gets invited to National Finalist competition at Petco Park in San Diego.

On Sunday, June 26, 2016, Mylia Perez of San Ramon, CA competed in the Giants Team Championship for Scotts Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit, & Run (PHR) program.  The competition was held at AT&T Park.  All 20 MLB Clubs held team championships at their ballparks on weekends from May 28 through June 26.  The program is the "Official Youth Skills Competition of Major League Baseball" where youth are invited to demonstrate their skills in pitching, hitting, and running in baseball or softball.  Over 625,000 youth participated in PHR competitions across the U.S and Canada this year.  2016 marks the program's 20th year.

Mylia advanced through Local and Sectional competitions to make it to the Giants Team Championship along with two other girls in Northern California.  Mylia's results scored enough points to win the Giants Team Championship that day for the Softball 9-10 year old division.  She was introduced on the field prior to the San Francisco Giants' game that afternoon along with the winners of the other age groups/divisions.

On Tuesday, June 27, 2016, MLB Network announced the National Finalists.  In order to make it to the National Finals, players must win at their Local, Sectional, and Team Championship competitions.  Their scores are then compared to other Team Championship winners in their age group/division and the top three from each age group/division are invited to the National Finals.  Mylia Perez was announced as one of the National Finalists for the Softball 9-10 year old division.  She will join the other National Finalists and will compete on the field at Petco Park during All-Star week to determine the national PHR Champions for 2016.  All finalists receive an all-expense paid trip for two to San Diego, will shag balls during the Home Run Derby, and attend the 2016 MLB All-Star Game, amongst other VIP activities.
