Scam Calls Reported In Danville: DPD

Several residents have reported calls claiming to be the Danville Police Department that ask for immediate payment to avoid arrest.

DANVILLE, CA — Several Danville residents have reported fraud calls pretending to be the Danville Police Department, according to the actual DPD.

The scam calls reportedly tell residents that they must make an immediate payment through Zelle to avoid being arrested immediately.

Police said scammers typically use three tactics to coerce money:

  1. Legitimacy: They pretend to be a real person with authority with a relationship to the target.
  2. Urgency: They often tell targets that the money is needed immediately to avoid a catastrophic event like arrest, a grandson in jail, or collecting lottery winnings.

The Danville police will never call to request money. Police advise anyone who receives a call like this to hang up and contact the organization the caller is claiming to be.
