School Lunch: What's on the Menu?

Lunch in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District has had a few changes this year, including more local produce and vegetarian options.

With the third week of the school year starting up this week, the routine of packing lunch every day has set-in. Or has it? Do you need a break from getting that lunch box or lunch bag ready every morning?

You can purchase meals for your child online at Meal Time online, by using your child's student ID number or by dropping off a check at the front desk at school.

Meal Prices for the 2010-11 school year:

Elementary $3.50

Middle $4.00

High School $4.00 for set lunch. There are also several other items from .50 to $5.00 in the cafeterias.

New on the Menu:

Local fruits and vegetables are being used by Chartwells, the foodservice management company used by the district, where "financially and seasonably available."

More plant based and vegetarian choices like spicy lentil stew, stri-fried vegetables with black beans and brown rice and a Mediterranean platter including humus, vegetables, fruit, pita and cheese.
