SEE: San Ramon Valley Fire Responds After 2 Gliders Crash

Two gliders crashed over Mt. Diablo. San Ramon Valley and CoCo fire officials helped rescue the pilots, one of whom was taken by helicopter.

MT. DIABLO, CA — San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District personnel were among those who responded to a recent mid-air crash of two gliders near Mt. Diablo.

The glider pilots survived after the crash around 1 p.m. Nov. 7 and were found east of Walnut Creek, the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office said Tuesday. One was found south of Tassajara Creek Trail, wrapped in his parachute.

The other was found nearby and taken by helicopter to a medical helicopter, which transported him to a hospital the sheriff's office said. His injuries prevented him from being taken by car.

One pilot was from Livermore and the other was from Palo Alto.
