DANVILLE, CA — The first annual John H. Moore Volunteerism Award was recently handed out at the Crow Canyon Country Club Crows Men’s Club yearend holiday party, and the honor went to a 75-year-old man known for his civic and philanthropic activities in the Danville community.

John Moore’s tragic murder last year shocked and saddened the Crow Canyon Country Club and the Town of Danville. Many in the community remember him as a selfless humanitarian, natural leader and tireless volunteer who led an accomplished life of family, career and community service.

Collopy was honored with the award because he has been extensively involved in coaching, church and leadership activities at the Crow Canyon Country club and in the community throughout his adult life, according to the Crow Men's Club. As a baseball, basketball and soccer coach in San Francisco and in Danville, he touched the lives of hundreds of youths as an inspiring mentor. He still keeps in touch with many of his team members, the club said.

An active member of the San Francisco Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council, Collopy was also Father’s Club President and member of the Board of Regents at St. Ignatius College Preparatory.

Collopy's other activities include Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, St. Isadore’s Catholic Church; committee member, Crow Canyon Homeowners Association; member and social committees, Crow Canyon Country Club for eight years; Board of Governors, Crow Canyon Country Club for three years; member of the Crow’s Men’s Club for 18 years and president in 2014.

Collopy and his wife of 54 years, Paula, have called bingo monthly for 15 years at the Crow Canyon Country Club.

“In every generation there are ordinary people who become extraordinary people by giving the world the best they have. John H. Moore was one of those people,” Giovanzana said.

The John H. Moore Volunteerism award is given annually in Moore’s memory by the Crow Men’s Club to recognize individuals who significantly contribute to the quality of life in the Danville community and the club. One of the founding members of the Crow Canyon Country Club, Moore contributed his educational, business, leadership and organizational skills to more than 15 organizations and causes throughout his adult life, according to the club.

As president of the Crow Men’s Club and the Danville Rotary, member of the Board of Directors of the San Ramon Medical Center, member of the Board of Crow Canyon Country Club Homeowners Association, member California State Contractor’s Board and many other volunteer activities, Moore always brought energy, enthusiasm and dedication, according to the club.

The Crows Men’s Club was founded in 1979 by a group of retired male members as an organization within the Crow Canyon Country Club. The purpose of the organization is to promote camaraderie and good fellowship with its members and the Danville community by conducting golf, tennis, other club events, and social and philanthropic activities.
