Leifer got her start in stand-up comedy in college when she went to see her then boyfriend, comedian Paul Reiser, perform at an open mic night. She would go on to be introduced by Seinfeld in her first forays into stand-up.

Leifer's long comedic resume includes work on shows such as Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Saturday Night Live, The Larry Sanders Show, Donald Trumps' Celebrity Apprentice, and this year's Oscars. She has numerous cable stand-up specials to her credit, and has appeared on talk shows such as The Oprah Winfrey Show, and Late Night With David Letterman, on which she has appeared 25 times.

These days, Leifer regales audiences with autobiographical humor. Stories are drawn from her Jewish upbringing, coming out, same-sex marriage and parenting her adopted 4-year-old son, Bruno, with her partner, Lori Wolf, and recent conversion to veganism.

She said, "I recently became vegan because I felt that as a Jewish lesbian, I wasn't part of a small enough minority. So, now, I'm a Jewish lesbian vegan."

Leifer will appear at Beth Chaim Congregation, 1800 Holbrook Drive in Danville, on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Cost: $15
