Students Asked To Submit Designs For Book-Themed Community Pianos

The Town of Danville is seeking SRVUSD students to submit original designs for community pianos. Submissions are due June 15.

DANVILLE, CA — The Town of Danville is seeking San Ramon Valley Unified School District middle school and high school students with experience in art to submit original designs for the Danville Community Pianos. For the fourth year, two pianos will be re-painted with original student artwork and displayed at the Danville Community Center and Railroad Plaza. Submissions are due June 15.

This opportunity is open to current middle school students and current high school students, including the graduating class of 2023 high school seniors. Artists who wish to participate will submit colored sketches of their designs for what they envision for the piano. Each artists (or team of artists if creating as a group) may submit one design sketch for consideration.

This summer, the theme is connected to the “Bound for Books” public art project. Artists are prompted to create a design inspired by plays, musicals, movies, and/or songs based on books.

For their sketch submission, artists must illustrate a concept tied to the theme and appropriate for public display, and the sketch should be a clear representation of what the final painted piano project will look like. The submission period closes Thursday, June 15 at 10 p.m.
