Vegan Restaurant To Open In Danville, First In Tri-Valley: Report

DANVILLE, CA — If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to stop eating meat or eat healthier, you’re in luck: in May, a chef at a Michelin star-restaurant is opening up the Tri-Valley’s first plant-based, vegan restaurant.

Sally Virgilio, a Danville native who works at a Michelin-starred plant-based Restaurant KLE in Zurich, Switzerland, will open Blossom & Root inside the former Basque Boulangerie Café at 411 Hartz Avenue, according to a Bay Area News Group report. Basque Boulangerie closed recently, though their Sonoma location remains open, according to Oaklandside.

The menu will feature seasonal products from local farms, including salads, a grain-and-legume burger, and soft-serve ice cream made from oat milk and other plant-based milks. The majority of ingredients, including broths, sauces and dressings, will be prepared in-house.

Virgilio is working with her mother Susan, a long-time Danville resident, and Sean Baker, the executive chef at Gather Kitchen, an acclaimed organic restaurant in Berkeley. The team plans to open a 1,620-square-foot kitchen in May that will start off serving ice cream, wines, and dinner five nights a week.
