Wellness Centers To Open At San Ramon Valley USD High Schools

The first two centers will open at California and Dougherty Valley high schools beginning in the 2020-21 school year.

DANVILLE, CA — The San Ramon Valley Unified School District will be opening the first two Wellness Centers on its comprehensive high school campuses beginning in the 2020-21 school year, it was announced Monday. The centers will open at California High School and Dougherty Valley High School.

The purpose of the Wellness Centers is to provide an additional safe place where students can go during the school day to receive support or to just take a break when they feel pressure, stress or anxiety, according to the district. The centers will be staffed with counselors and social workers; additional support will be determined based on the unique needs of the individual sites, the district said.

The district also plans to open Wellness Centers at both Monte Vista High School and San Ramon Valley High School in the near future.

In order to help get the first two sites up and running, Keller Williams real estate is partnering with the SRVUSD to spiff up rooms that will house the centers.

According to a SRVUSD press release, "The SRVUSD has made student mental wellness a priority. Based on input from all stakeholders, Wellness Centers were identified as a priority in the district’s Local Control and Accountability Plan and were one of five recommendations that resulted from the work of the Mental Wellness Task Force. Additionally, the SRVUSD Leadership Priorities emphasize the importance of student wellness as an essential component of overall student success. As part of a multi-tiered system of support, the Wellness Centers are another way that we can focus on and nurture positive social emotional learning for all students."
