📰 News we're reading

1. Yolo County Appoints Former Davis Mayor Will Arnold as Communications Director (davisvanguard.org) — Former Davis mayor Will Arnold has been named Yolo County’s new director of communications and chief public information officer, starting Monday, June 15. Arnold, a Davis native with UC Davis and Caltrans experience, will oversee countywide public information and emergency messaging, shaping how Davis and other Yolo communities receive critical updates during crises and budget challenges.

2. Davis Voters Appear to Reject Measure V, Blocking Village Farms Development (davisvanguard.org) — Davis voters are on track to narrowly reject Measure V, likely halting the large Village Farms housing project proposed north of Covell Boulevard. With only a few ballots left, the measure trails by 270 votes, keeping agricultural land outside city limits and intensifying debate over Davis’ housing shortages, Measure J, and how the city will meet state housing requirements.

3. Carlos Dominguez retrial in Davis stabbing spree case: June 12 updates (kcra.com) — The retrial of Carlos Dominguez, accused in the 2023 Davis stabbing spree that killed two men and injured a woman, continued this week with detailed testimony from a crime-scene sketch artist. Jurors heard how investigators documented a suspect residence on Hawthorne, as prosecutors work to rebuild their case after the first trial ended without unanimous verdicts on all charges.

4. Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management's 2026 Clean Air Art Contest winners announced (dailydemocrat.com) — Several Davis students have been honored in the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District’s 2026 Clean Air Art Contest, including winners from Korematsu Elementary, Willett Elementary, Frances Harper Junior High, and Da Vinci High. Their artwork, celebrating “Heroes for Clean Air,” will appear on stickers and giveaways at community events, highlighting Davis youth creativity and local air-quality awareness.
