Beth Bourne, Davis anti-transgender activist, charged with violating Yolo court order (sacbee.com) — Davis resident and school board candidate Beth Bourne faces a misdemeanor charge alleging she violated a Yolo County court order through social media posts, after a June report to Davis police. Known locally for her opposition to transgender-related school policies and frequent appearances at Davis meetings, she is scheduled for an Oct. 19 Yolo Superior Court hearing in Woodland.
   

2. 'Good Fire, Living Water' Exhibit Highlights Native Stewardship and Wetland Restoration in Davis (davisvanguard.org) — A free exhibit at the Davis Arts Center will spotlight Native-led wetland restoration and cultural burning practices in the Yolo bioregion from Sept. 20 through Nov. 13. Curated by YoloSol with support from the City of Davis, it features interactive installations, local experts, and public events like 2nd Friday ArtAbouts and a tule storytelling workshop to connect residents with Indigenous stewardship.
   

3. Highway 113 closures scheduled Sept. 15 through Oct. 2 in Knights Landing (dailydemocrat.com) — If you regularly drive between Davis and Knights Landing, expect nighttime lane closures on Highway 113 from Sept. 15 to Oct. 2 as crews upgrade crosswalks and signage. Traffic will be guided by flaggers, with access to homes and businesses maintained, and a second construction phase planned in early November. Check Caltrans QuickMap or Yolo County's road closure map before you head out.
   

4. UC Davis Distinguished Professor Walter Leal receives the 2026 Applied Chemical Ecology Award from the International Society of Chemical Ecology (dailydemocrat.com) — UC Davis Distinguished Professor Walter Leal has been honored with the 2026 Applied Chemical Ecology Award for decades of groundbreaking work on insect chemical communication and pest control. His research, including discoveries about DEET and mosquito attraction, underpins crop protection and disease prevention worldwide, highlighting the global impact of scholarship based at UC Davis.
