1. Copper wire thefts hit Yolo County as 3 Sacramento residents arrested in Woodland (sacbee.com) — Law enforcement is warning about a surge in copper wire thefts stretching from south of Davis to northern Yolo County, hitting agricultural pumps and lighting and causing costly damage. After three Sacramento residents were arrested in Woodland with wire and tools, the Sheriff's Office is still seeking additional suspects and asking Davis-area residents to report suspicious activity.
2. Search continues for Woodland couple in Nepal (kcra.com) — A Woodland couple with close ties to UC Davis remains missing a month after catastrophic flooding in Nepal, as friends and family anxiously await news. UC Davis associate dean Hemant Bhargava says search teams and relatives are now on-site with equipment, but no trace has been found yet. The husband is expected to return to UC Davis after a sabbatical.
3. Best colleges in California (kioncentralcoast.com) — UC Davis lands at #10 on a new ranking of California's best four‑year colleges, highlighting the town's flagship campus alongside UCLA, Berkeley, Stanford and others. For Davis families and students weighing options, the list underscores UC Davis's strong academics, selectivity and statewide reputation compared with other top schools.
4. Swim And Dive Holds Blue vs. Gold Intrasquad (ucdavisaggies.com) — UC Davis swimmers and divers just wrapped up their annual Blue vs. Gold intrasquad meet at Schall Aquatics Center in Davis, with several Aggies winning multiple events. The scrimmage sets the stage for the team's regular season, which starts Oct. 3 at Pacific and includes a home meet against Nevada on Oct. 9.
