Davis Staff Backs 374 Acres of Farmland Mitigation for Willowgrove Development (davisvanguard.org) — Davis officials are backing a plan to permanently protect 374 acres of Bullseye Farms as agricultural mitigation for the proposed 1,250‑unit Willowgrove development northeast of town. The City Council will vote Oct. 6, but the conservation easement only proceeds if Davis voters approve Willowgrove under Measure J/R/D this November, making the decision a major turning point for local growth and farmland preservation.
   

2. Davis school leaders look to cut $4 million, mostly through layoffs (abridged.org) — Davis Joint Unified leaders are preparing roughly $4 million in budget cuts this school year, with most savings expected to come from staff layoffs as enrollment and funding decline. The board plans a six‑month process, including a November town hall, to gather community input before the March 15 layoff deadline, and warns similar cuts may be needed for several years.

4. Bay Area author discusses skills students need for success (kcra.com) — A free talk in Davis on October 6 will feature Bay Area academic advisor and author Ana Homayoun, who focuses on the real-world skills students need beyond grades and test scores. She'll discuss soft skills, executive functioning, and how parents can better support teens preparing for college, careers, and life after high school.
