Northbound I-5, I-805 lanes to close Monday night in Sorrento Valley (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Northbound I-5 and most northbound I-805 lanes will close tonight from Genesee Avenue to Carmel Mountain Road, part of a major paving project that runs up to just past Del Mar. 3. Backside Meal Program into its Fourth Year at Del Mar (dmtc.com) — Del Mar racetrack is continuing its Backstretch Complimentary Meal Program into a fourth year, serving hundreds of backside workers free hot meals on race days. From cheeseburgers to Sinaloa barbecue, the program now dishes up roughly 2,000 meals weekly, offering both nourishment and a social gathering spot for grooms, hot walkers, and other CHRB cardholders.
4. Rabeeba's win shows Bob Baffert still the trainer to beat at Del Mar (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Del Mar racing fans have a big Labor Day weekend ahead, with Bob Baffert's filly Rabeeba extending his record stakes tally and setting up showdowns in the Del Mar Debutante and Futurity. The 87th summer meet closes with nine stakes over five days, including multiple Grade I and II races and several rich juvenile events that will shape Breeders' Cup prospects.
5. Map reveals exactly where all the speed traps are hidden across California (nypost.com) — Drivers in Del Mar should know that, along with Solana Beach, the city now has several red-light cameras as part of a growing statewide network of automated traffic enforcement. A new map details where cameras are operating across California, while Los Angeles and other big cities ramp up large speed-camera programs aimed at cutting crashes and speeding.
