Today's riddle: I'm a rock group with 4 members; one member was assassinated. What am I? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. No trains, no bus replacement: Surfliner and COASTER both suspended Saturday and Sunday. (travelerstoday.com) — Rail travelers in Del Mar and along the coast face a complete shutdown of both Pacific Surfliner and COASTER service between San Diego and Los Angeles this Saturday and Sunday, with no replacement buses. The closure is tied partly to ongoing Del Mar Bluffs stabilization and other track work, so residents should plan alternate transportation and keep checking advisories as Del Mar construction continues to trigger schedule changes.
2. Del Mar Historical Society to hold inaugural Surf Del Mar Festival (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Downtown Del Mar will host a free four-day Surf Del Mar Festival Oct. 8–11, with events spread across Del Mar Plaza, Powerhouse Park, L'Auberge and St. Peter's Parish Hall. Expect surfer reunions, climate and ocean panels, films, art, book signings, women-in-surf talks, live music and more, all celebrating Del Mar's surf culture and history.
3. The String Cheese Incident Issue 'Fête-Tama' (relix.com) — Fans in Del Mar can catch The String Cheese Incident live Dec. 11–12 at The Sound, part of their Just Keep Spinning Tour. The band just released a new dance-oriented instrumental single, "Fête-Tama," and is rolling out fresh material alongside a busy national and international tour schedule.
4. Enter to win Tickets to the Mega Reptile Expo (audacy.com) — Local residents can enter online through tonight, Sept. 11, for a chance to win four tickets to this weekend's Mega Reptile Expo at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. One winner will be randomly selected and must follow any venue or health-related requirements tied to using the prize.
5. Nancy Hudson Cross (forestgrovenewstimes.com) — Del Mar readers may recognize the family of longtime educator Nancy Hudson Cross, whose daughter and son-in-law live in Del Mar. Cross, a former teacher and high school administrator who loved golf, travel, and bridge, died September 3 and will be remembered at a September 26 celebration of life in Forest Grove, with donations suggested to several charities in lieu of flowers.
