UPDATED: EX TPHS Student Appeared In Court, Bail At $500K

Kevin Matlak may be sentenced to four years and four months if convicted. Bail set at $500,000.

UPDATE 6/13:

Kevin Gregory Matlak, 21, was charged with one count of criminal threats Tuesday. He did not appear in court because as he is being treated in a psychiatric hospital. He appeared in court though, the next day June 13th. He was wheeled in by nurses, and he has been at the San Diego County Pyschoatric Hospital.

Matlak, if convicted, faces 4 years and 4 moths behind bars, says Deputy DA Matthew Greco. Matlak was charged after SDPD tracked him to his home in Point Loma back on May 31st.

Bail, was orginally set at $50,000 and he bailed out and checked into a mental ward, says his defense attorney Brian Watkins.

In a social media post released: Matlak wrote, "I hate all of you". He also said: “ I hate all of you, I hope I die tonight, RIP Torrey Pines High school”. Matlak posted a picture of an AR-15 with his caption. Matlak's friends saw the post in Instagram and they reported it to police. He graduated Torrey Pines in 2015.

The judge, Maureen Hallahan agreed with the DA, Greco, and determined he was a danger to himself and others. Judge Hallahan cited safety for Torrey Pines's 4:00pm graduation on Friday.

The judge ordered media not show his face.

Matlak is expected to be back in court at a later date this month.
