Casa Sol y Mar Set To Open in Del Mar Highlands Thursday

Casa Sol y Mar is owned by restauranteer Diane Powers, owner of Casa Guadalajara in Old Town, Casa de Bandini in Carlsbad and Casa de Pico in La Mesa.

Ultimas noticias: Casa Sol y Mar is opening in Del Mar Highlands on Thursday. The highly anticipated Mexican restaurant is Diane Powers’ fourth eatery in San Diego County. Powers is behind restaurant and retail favorites including Casa de Bandini in Carlsbad and the Bazaar del Mundo Shops in Old Town.

Powers said the opportunity to open a restaurant in the Del Mar area came to her last year.

“I was familiar with the center and I went up there to look at it. I thought that this could be a great opportunity because it is a lovely area,” she said.

Casa Sol Y Mar completely transformed the old Red Robin restaurant space in Del Mar Highlands Town Center in Carmel Valley.

The restaurant is decorated in Mexican folk art and colorful décor including handmade mirrors, hanging lanterns, a large iron chandelier, fountains, rawhide lamps and hand-painted tiles. It has seating for more than 200 inside, another 100 on its outdoor patio, and 97 parking spaces were added to the lot to accommodate the expansion.

Casa Sol y Mar is divided into a main dining room, smaller dining area for parties and cantina perfect for sipping margaritas, tequila or cold cervezas and appetizers and entrees with friends.

Guests can even watch fresh tortillas being prepared at the center of the restaurant.

The sites and tastes are authentic and so will be the sounds. A mariachi band will perform Wednesday through Sunday evenings.

“This is more of a contemporary version based on a lot of the architecture detail and spirit of Mexico,” said Powers.

Casa Sol y Mar will serve lunch and dinner starting May 16. It is located at 12865 El Camino Real, San Diego, CA 92130.
