Electric Run to Light up Del Mar in February

The 5K run/walk, which debuted in Orange County with 10,000 participants, is making its way to San Diego County.

Neon trees, glowing "lakes," and other lights will brighten the region next year when the Electric Run makes its San Diego debut.

The event, which began in Orange County, is coming to San Diego on Feb. 2. The 5K run/walk—organized by San Diego-based VAVi Sport, Social Club and Ragnar Relay founder Dan Hill—will feature electronic music and more than $120,000 worth of lighting.

VAVi Sport's vice president of events, Keith Cunningham, said the idea of the Electric Run came together after examining current trends in the industry.

"There's a huge boom in electronic music and there's a huge boom in runs, so we brought both ideas together to create an elaborate, decked-out light show," he said.

The course will include music, tunnels with dancing patterns, glowing "lakes and rivers," red rock cliffs and other lights. The Electric Run will end with a Finish Line party featuring top DJs, Cunningham said.

Organizers are still determining which DJs will attend the San Diego race. The Orange County race—which was held on Nov. 30 and attracted 10,000 participants—featured Sultan & Ned Shepard.

Registration is $60 or $55 each for a team of four. For more information, visit ElectricRun.com.
