Fire Briefly Closes I-5 Freeway Ramp Near Del Mar

SAN DIEGO, CA — A small fire alongside Interstate 5 in Del Mar Heights forced the shutdown of a freeway off-ramp Monday but caused little damage, according to the San Diego Fire Rescue Department.

The blaze broke out around 1:30 p.m. on an embankment near Del Mar Heights Road, said Lee Swanson of the SDFRD.

He said the freeway's southbound off-ramp to Del Mar Heights Road was closed to accommodate fire equipment.

The flames didn't threaten structures. Swanson said the cause was not immediately determined.
