KITCHEN 1540 Receives Wine Spectator Award of Excellence
The Award of Excellence was given based on its strong list of California wines, its 325 selections and wine inventory of 3,400 bottles
Wine Spectator magazine has announced that KITCHEN 1540, the signature restaurant at L’Auberge Del Mar, A Destination Hotel, has received an Award of Excellence designation from this prestigious industry publication, which reports about wine and food news and travel trends.
“On behalf of L’Auberge Del Mar’s sommelier, Brian Mayer, Jr., Executive Chef Nathan Lingle and our entire professional culinary team, we are proud to accept this honor for our recently revitalized wine list,” said Kurtis Hurt, director of food and beverage for the 120-room property.
The Award of Excellence was given to KITCHEN 1540 based on its strong list of California wines and on its 325 total selections and wine inventory of 3400 bottles. Further, the list features a well-chosen assortment of quality producers delivering excellent choices to satisfy all guest wine lovers. The list complements Chef Lingle’s newly created dinner menus highlighted by his innovative Cali-Baja and Coastal Harvest cuisine. It’s a curated collection of wines designed to harmonize with the chef’s dedication to featuring the finest local, organic and sustainable meat, fish and vegetables.

In addition, since KITCHEN 1540 is very often a destination for special occasions and important celebrations, its winning wine list features impressive champagnes and sparkling wines, ranging in price from $52 a bottle to $1,660. And, Lingle collaborates with the wine team to create special wine and spirits dinners and other wine appreciation programs to enhance the enjoyment and guest knowledge of fine wines.
The awards list appears on the magazine’s website and will be in the August 31 print issue of “Wine Spectator’s 2016 Dining Guide.”
