A non-profit art entity working to engage critical art and cultural dialogues through curated events, A Ship in the Woods was created by RJ Brooks and Kiersten Puusemp to be used as a retreat for artists, a mingling of minds, a gallery or even a performance space. After the economic downturn hurt the art world, Brooks and Puusemp created this space to provide a sustainable-living environment for a community of artists to be able to use and have a place to continue working. The name, A Ship in the Woods, represents a vessel in an unexpected location and an anchor pointing towards the sky is placed to inspire what “could be.”
