Sublime Tavern Brings Comfort Food and Drinks to Del Mar

Simply put: Sublime Tavern is sublime for comfort food fanatics, beer lovers and wine enthusiasts. The restaurant opened this week in Del Mar just in time for the races.

With 55 beers of draft, 107 by the bottle and 30 wines by the glass and 187 wines by the bottle, Sublime’s beverage list will have you coming back to try drinks on your personal “must sip” list. Sublime even has three brews exclusive made for the new restaurant, which opened on Wednesday—a session farmhouse IPA by Belching Beaver, a Belgian IPA by Mother Earth Brew Co. and a Scottish ale by Rip Current Brewing.  

The restaurant, on the second floor, has a menu with sharable plates, soups, salads, mac and cheese, burgers, sandwiches and entrees including a locally caught yellowtail with parsley & lemon spatzle, fennel salad and gingered chardonnay nage.

Menu prices for small plates are $12-29, salads $9-$12, burgers and sandwiches $9-$13, mac and cheese $7-$12, pizza $13-$26 and entrees $17-$28.

Executive Chef Josh Richardi, a former sous chef at Roppongi Restaurant and Sushi Bar in La Jolla, heads the kitchen. The menu has favorites from owner James Limjoco’s first restaurant Sublime Ale House in San Marcos, with a few new item dishes including a pan roasted pork chop with potato hash, caramelized apple and a creamy whole grain mustard sauce.

The kitchen opens daily at 4 p.m. and the bar and lounge stay open late each night.

Limjoco anticipates starting up brunch in the late summer.
