Torrey Pines' Tony Hawk Skates for YMCA
"Sonic Generations of Skate competition was a lot of fun, and it was great to take part in a competition in San Diego—my hometown," said Tony Hawk in an announcement.
Legendary skater Tony Hawk joined several other top half-pip skaters to show off big tricks and big hearts in San Diego this weekend.
On Saturday, Hawk, a Torrey Pines High School graduate, competed in the Second Annual Sonic Generations of Skate in Clairemont to benefit Grind for Like, a cancer foundation founded by pro skateboarder and two-time cancer survivor Mike Rogers. The event took place during the Clash at Clairemont, an annual fundraiser for the Mission Valley YMCA.
Competitors included Andy Macdonald and Mitchie Brusco—all of whom donated their prize money to Grind for Life.
The 2013 Sonic Generations of Skate Results:
- 1st Place: Team Black – Tony Hawk, Andy Macdonald Mitchie Brusco
- 2nd Place: Team Purple - Kevin Staab, Bucky Lasek, Marcelo Bastos
- 3rd Place: Team Yellow: Mike McGill, Pierre Luc Gagnon, Jimmy Wilkins
- 4th Place: Team Red: Sergie Ventura, Lincoln Ueda, Adam Taylor
