Train Collides With Pedestrian in Del Mar

The collision was reported about 7:50 p.m. Friday.

DEL MAR, CA: A pedestrian struck by a Coaster train Friday night in Del Mar was hospitalized with unspecified injuries, authorities said.

The train versus pedestrian collision occurred about 7:50 p.m. Friday along the bluffs near 12th Street, according to sheriff's Deputy Tamani Pugh.

The engineer of a train that was traveling approximately 50 mph saw a person walking on the tracks and applied the train's emergency braking system but was unable to avoid the collision, Pugh stated in a news release.

Information about the extent of injuries suffered by the pedestrian was not available at publication time.

The Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit is investigating the incident, according to Pugh, who noted that since Feb. 2, 2015, there have been 18 train collisions on railways within the sheriff's jurisdiction.
