San Diego, CA Nov. 16, 2015 – Kimberly Harbert, director of Drama Kids of San Diego, recently announced a free confidence building workshops on December 5th, 2015 at the STEAMMaker Festival to be held at the Delmar Fairgrounds. Broadway San Diego will be teaming up with Drama Kids San Diego to promote the “Arts” in S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).
“There is a direct correlation between a student’s confidence and their overall school performance. Tomorrow’s leaders are confident, articulate, creative, and solution makers. These skill can be taught. Programs are designed to develop public speaking and collaboration skills that bolster self-confidence and self-esteem in students.” said Harbert. “These workshops provide yet another way for us to give back to our community.”
Confidence building workshops are fast paced, fun and include a sampling of speech articulation, interactive collaboration and developmental theater games. This year’s workshop are especially fun since Broadway San Diego has teamed up with Drama Kids to support the concepts of “Arts” in S.T.E.A.M. Workshops will contain themes from Broadway San Diego shows; such as: Wizard of Oz, Newsies, Mythbuster, and Star Trek. Additionally, Broadway San Diego and Drama Kids will be raffling show tickets, merchandise, free classes and camps at the top of every hour at the STEAMMaker Festival.
According to Harbert, Drama Kids curriculum is very well aligned with the S.T.E.A.M. concepts of learning. As a result, developmental drama is the only drama program that is permitted to participate in the annual STEAMMaker festival. Developmental drama differ significantly from traditional drama programs, in that its emphasis is on developing life skills that prepare students for everyday presentations. Drama Kids’ copyrighted curriculum features original, creative lessons with a built-in advancing scale of language development that enables students of different ages and abilities to progress at their own rate. “After all what is a good idea, if students do not have the courage and conviction to present their ideas to the world.” Said Harbert.
RSVP for the Dec. 5, 2015 workshops for students’ ages 3 through 11 years old. For more information about the STEAMMaker workshops or about weekly Drama Kids classes and summer camps, contact Kimberly Harbert at (619) 846.2407 or sandiegodramakid@gmail.com.
