DIAMOND BAR, CA — Diamond Bar residents can obtain free sandbags and sand at two Los Angeles County fire stations as the rainy season approaches, city officials announced on Friday.
The sandbags are intended to help residents protect their properties from storm runoff and flooding, particularly in areas prone to water accumulation, sloped driveways and properties located at the base of hillsides.
Sandbags are most effective in low-flow situations and can be used to redirect water and debris away from homes, garages, doorways and other openings where water could enter, according to the city.
Residents can pick up free sandbags and sand at the following locations:
The service is self-serve, with a limit of 25 sandbags per household. Residents must provide proof of residency and are responsible for filling, lifting and transporting the bags themselves, the city said.
Residents were encouraged to call their preferred station before arriving to confirm that sand and sandbags are available.
For instructions on filling and placing sandbags, residents can review the Los Angeles County Fire Department's sandbagging guidelines.
Additional storm preparation information is available through the city's El Niño Preparedness Hub.
