On Saturday, July 9, Diamond Bar topped 23 area teams in the San Gabriel Valley Passing League at Arroyo High School.

The seven-on-seven passing tournament consisted of fellow Hacienda League opponents such as Walnut, West Covina, Bonita, and Rowland. The Brahmas made it through the tourney without falling behind once and several players put points on the board.

The Brahmas entered the tournament beating Whittier Christian in the first round, San Dimas in the second round, Monrovia in the third round, and defeated the defending champions Azusa in the championship game, finishing 7-0.

“The boys played real well,” coach Maine said. “It seemed as if we got
stronger and stronger as the day went on.”

Offensive coordinator Christopher Hernandez said he is also confident in the offense’s growing abilities.

“Ten different receivers scored touchdowns during the tournament,” Hernandez said. "With Henry Omana as the quarterback and wide receivers such as Donte Harris and George Katrib, we are a deep offensive threat."

Yet the Brahma offense isn’t the only threat for opponents —
the Brahma defense and conditioning is a force as well.

Albert Lim, who was the center for the 1995 Diamond Bar CIF
championship team, is the Brahma's strength and conditioning coach.

“He has already done a great job getting the boys bigger,
faster, and stronger,” Hernandez said. “The hard work these kids put into the weight room and on the field day in and day out, will attribute to their success.”

Coaches are hoping the trend set Saturday will hold well after the Brahmas suit up for the regular season.

Diamond Bar will travel to face their longstanding rival, the Ayala Bulldogs, away on Friday, Sept. 2 to start off their 2011 season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
