Burrowing Owl Book Focuses on Tres Hermanos Ranch

Animal habitats and wildlife corridors are addressed in this simple children's book.

Julia Anne Hernandez, Miss Diamond Bar 2010, listens to former Diamond Bar resident Georgette Baker, author of BUO THE BURROWING OWL, a new book which seeks to teach the importance of saving wild open space.

BUO's story refers specifically to the Tres Hermanos Ranch located on both sides of Grand Avenue between the city of Diamond Bar and Chino Hills and to the animals that have habitats there.

This simple children's tale about a burrowing owl shows how the choices humans make can either destroy our preserve the lives of animals, plants and wild animal corridors.

Hernandez and Baker are part of a grassroots group, of over 800 members, opposed to commercial and residential development in the Tres Hermanos Ranch open space currently part of the City of Industry.

A variety of animal habitats, protected Oak trees and an important wildlife corridor are at risk should these 2500 acres, be developed for high density housing.

What beautifies these two communities is the wild open space, the trees, rolling hills, wildflowers and the many animals that traverse the area.

Hernandez states "this is a valid, sensitive biodiverse ecoregion with birds, plants and animals such as owls and badgers that abate rodents. Building on this land would impact cougar, bobcats and coyotes that cross from the Cleveland National Forest all the way to Whittier open space. Building on it would prevent their migration for mating and their food search. I strive to bring awareness to the public and Georgette Baker's book encourages parents to raise children aware of our fragile environment. "

All profits for BUO THE BURROWING OWL are donated to Save the Tres Hermanos Ranch group. Books are sold online and at PostNet on Diamond Bar Blvd and Golden Springs and Parkway Postal in Chino HIlls.
