Capitol Comment: Huff Talks State Employee Pay Hikes

In his latest Capitol Comment, Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff, R-Diamond Bar, discusses state employee pay raises Gov. Jerry Brown recently approved.

State employee costs for pay and benefits have increased by $2.2 billion since 2006-07 and the total cost of salaries and benefits for the workers is now at $15.7 billion, Huff said.

According to the senator, education programs and public safety faced steep cuts during the recent recession, but state employee pay continued to rise, even while legislators grappled with a large state budget deficit.

Senator Huff serves as the Senate Republican Leader in the California State Senate and represents the 29th Senate District covering portions of Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino Counties. Follow Senator Huff on Twitter @bobhuff99. Visit Senator Huff's website at www.sen.ca.gov/huff.
