Catfish Crossing Freeway In LA County Rescued By Authorities: CHP

DIAMOND BAR, CA — Dozens of catfish making their way across the 57 Freeway disrupted traffic recently in Los Angeles County, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. Aug. 21, when California Highway Patrol officials out of Baldwin Park were called to the southbound freeway just north of Sunset Crossing Road in Diamond Bar to respond to a large puddle of water with live fish, Officer Tyler Dean told Patch.

Authorities found 31 catfish crossing the road, according to the highway patrol’s Baldwin Park Facebook account. There was no vehicle or other source from which the fish appeared to have come in the area, Dean said.

“Officers quickly sprang into action, safely moving all 31 fish to the right shoulder,” according to the Facebook post. “With the assistance of Animal Control, we’re happy to report that 29 of the 31 catfish survived and were safely relocated.”
