DBHS Students win "Shark Tank" at Business Conference

On November 14 & 15, over 70 students from Diamond Bar High School attended the 2015 Leadership Development Institute at the Riverside Convention Center. Future Business Leaders of America, the largest student-run business organization in the world, held the conference, which contained keynote speakers, workshops, and competitive events.

The largest event which took place was “Shark Tank,” based off the hit ABC show where entrepreneurs pitch their products to wealthy investors, known as the “sharks.” While these students did not have Mark Cuban sitting across from them, it was still a very competitive process. Over 30 schools were represented in the competition, but a group from Diamond Bar High School took the crown.

Their product, Peel-Out, was designed to help prevent the spread of diseases caused by unclean wrestling mats. The team had 20 minutes to work together and design a presentation for the other groups. After being voted into the final three by their peers, the group worked overnight to prepare a 10 minute presentation in front of a panel of judges.

The winning group consisted of seniors David Walters, Morgan Dempsey, Jarrett Hsieh, Kevin Lee, and Aishwarya Bhupathiraju, as well as juniors Cade Lawhead and Chris Yanez.

Diamond Bar FBLA members will next meet at the Inland Section Conference at Los Osos High School on February 6.
