Diamond Bar Playwright Ready For His Premiere

Bill Ferber's play, "Eventide," will have its world premiere in the NoHo Arts District next month

According to Diamond Bar playwright Bill Ferber, his latest work, Eventide, has been 58 years in the making.

“It’s about my experience with my own parents and close relatives in their last years and the struggle to balance caring for them and leaving them their privacy,” he said. “We always wish we could have had more time with them, more time to ask questions, reminisce or even start new projects.”

Premiering next month in the NoHo Arts District, Eventide is a dramedy about Audrey and Lou Bronson, an elderly couple looking to recapture some of their youth. Former actress Audrey decides she wants to re-stage her first wedding with second husband Lou, and their nephew Stanley and day helper Gloria join in the production. It is a four person play, featuring Dominick Morra as Lou, Bette Smith as Audrey, Randi Tahara as Gloria, and Michael Carter as Stanley.

It took Ferber about three months to write Eventide, but this wasn’t his first play. He has been writing and directing since 19, when he established the Baldwin Park Children’s Theater with friends. He earned a degree in theater arts at Whittier College, and has performed in community and professional theaters across Los Angeles.

“This is my third play, and I have others to stage after this one,” he said.

Ferber hopes that people walk away from Eventide with a greater appreciation for family, and will reach out to their loved ones.

“Call your mother,” he said. “Get together before it’s too late. Talk about the past. Plan for the future. Don’t put it off.”

Eventide will run from October 7 to October 30, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. J.E.T. Studios, 5126 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood. Tickets: $20 general admission, $15 seniors, $10 students with ID. Phone reservations: 800-838-3006. For more information, visit the Eventide website
