Diamond Bar To Remove 246 Trees Following Safety Concerns
The decision follows a lawsuit stemming from a 2018 incident on Montefino Avenue, the city said.
DIAMOND BAR, CA — The Diamond Bar City Council approved a two-phase project to remove 246 city-maintained Bradford Pear trees and plant replacement trees where possible, following safety concerns related to the species, the city announced on Wednesday.
The approval came during the council's Nov. 3 regular meeting. Tree removal is expected to begin in mid-November, with replacement planting planned for spring 2027, according to the city.
The city will host a community presentation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, in the Windmill Room at City Hall, the city said.

The decision follows a lawsuit stemming from a 2018 incident on Montefino Avenue, where a branch from a Bradford Pear tree fell and injured a pedestrian, the city said.
According to the city, Bradford Pear trees are prone to branch splitting as they age, and structural weaknesses may not always be visible before a branch fails.
